Subject: Runoff Resistence Factor

Dear All,
I am wondering about the best way to derive this parameter. I am using virgin conditions for calibrating my model ie against naturalised flows. Thereafter, I will input the developments like reservoirs and water demands and simulate the changes in flows and compare that to observed flows.

One way to determine RRF would be to calculate the ratio of naturalised runoff to Precipitation. However this would be ok if only simulating for a period for which such data is available. Now what if we want to simulate into the future, for which we dont have flow data?

After calibration, simulating land use changes in future would definitely mean different runoff resistence factors. So how would one derive new RRFs?

The other idea I had was to derive RRF using a combination of LAI and slope, thus detaching its dependence on flow values as in the method above. I am still trying to figure out a way to represent this in the range of WEAP( 0.1 - 10)

Any ideas on this?

Regards,
Huzefa
