On November 4, 2010, the Stockholm Environment Institute will be holding a one-day symposium on the intersection between water and energy issues. The symposium will include discussions on water and energy modeling considerations. SEI is unable to give financial assistance for travel or lodging, but attendance is free. Additional information is below.
*Cross Currents: Water and Energy Challenges in the 21st Century*
Water and energy policy are increasingly connected and face interrelated challenges, with a growing demand for water for energy generation and fast-growing energy needs in our water supply systems. Transitions to renewable energy sources will not necessarily solve this problem, as several pose water-related challenges of their own, especially in regions with steadily falling aquifers.
All these challenges are emerging at a time when there are increasing concerns over how climate change will affect the future reliability of freshwater supplies.
Our symposium will explore how these and other perspectives on water and energy can be assembled into a useful framework that can support the development of sustainable water and energy management policies in a changing world.
This event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is encouraged.
