Dear forum,
I'm trying to regularize the flow released from a reservoir. I tested by altering priorities, dimunuing the maximum hydraulic outflow from the reservoir and the flow was still passing through practically as if it wasen't a reservoir. Then I diminued the energy demand and the model regularized the released flow. It still generate in a period more then the energy demand living the period after with a deficit. How could I modify the simulation so that the system saves water in the reservoir in the wet period and releases it in the dry one? I allready tried by priorizing the reservoir in the wet period and almost nothing changed. Maybe you have some other good idea.
Thanks Micol

Dear Micol,
It sounds like your energy demand is ranked more important than your downstream flow demands that would help regulate the flow. In the reservoir data, under Hydropower, the default hydropower demand preference in 0. Have you changed that at all? If you have, it may be higher than your downstream water demands, and you might want to change it to 0, or to something lower than your downstream demands.

Hello,
In my case study, same problem is occurred, I need to store water in monsoon period and release in non-monsoon period,
but It spills the water in downstream in-spite of storing.
and one more problem is that it do not satisfy the demand, although there is sufficient water.
I need to know on what basis it release water into downstream and divert it in diversion link.
Your reply will be helpfull
Thank you

Dear Matika,
There could be a number of reasons your dam is spilling. Is its capacity large enough? Is there demand downstream? It sounds like your system has a lot of demand and not enough water. This would make the dam spill if it's priority number is lower than the demand site, which it usually is.
If you want to store water in your dam at the expense of the users downstream (who would have unmet demand), you can change the priority number for that time period using an if statement in the expression builder. But I would recommend first evaluating the results for your system - it seems like the water balance may be incorrect, given your expectations.
