Hi WEAP user,
I am running WEAP at daily scale and the agricultural water demand for my catchment (1150 square Kilometers) is very high with the range between 600-900 million cubic meters per day.
Any suggestion on what might cause this extremely high water demand?

Hi Chusit,
Have you tried modifying the information in the "irrigation" button of your catchment? You can also look at what happens when you modify the land use variables (I won't list them here because they depend on which modeling method you've chosen for your catchment). But they also impact how your land interacts with water, which will in turn impact how much water your catchment demands.

Thanks for your suggestion. I use 'Soil moisture model' and the parameters that I can modify are Lower and Upper Thresholds.
I try to do sensitivity analysis of the lower and upper threshold under irrigation button. Reducing lower threshold decreases agricultural demand a bit (around 100 million m^3 out of 800-1000 million m^3). Changing upper threshold doesn't have much impact on water demand.
Any other suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Changing the catchment parameters (e.g. Soil Water Capacity and Root Zone Conductivity) under Land Use button has impacts on water demand. The agricultural water demand is still high but looks rational now.

Hi Stephanie,
Sorry for the delayed. I used the parameters from our existing model in Mekong region. They are a little bit different from the WEAP defaults but not too much (depending on basin characteristics).
