Hello All,
I am new to WEAP and am just going through the tutorial module. I kindly need some explanation regarding water quality modeling of a river in WEAP.
In the tutorial module, the constituents listed for modeling are Temperature, BOD, DO, TSS, and salt concentration.
My question is, are they the only constituents that can be model in WEAP. Is it possible to include other constituents like heavy metals, nutrients, faecal coliforms, and inorganic variables like Fluoride and Boron. If it is possible, how can I go about it?
Thank You.

Dear Nura,
WEAP is capable of modeling water quality using some pre-programmed models, such as BOD and temperature, as you can see in the water quality constituent window in the dropdown menu under "Calculated by". Here also, you can choose "first-order decay" as you saw in the tutorial.
Unfortunately, if your water quality constituents require more complicated modeling than first order decay, then you will not be able to represent these processes within WEAP. You can certainly combine WEAP with a Qual2K model - for nutrients and faecal coliforms and some others. But even Qual2K doesn't have the capabilities to model the complex interactions of heavy metals, not yet anyway. I would recommend looking into Qual2K as you decide the scope of your project.
