Subject: Groundwater Infiltration in Glacier Module of Soil Moisture Method Posted: 5/13/2019 Viewed: 8110 times
Hi,
We are trying to obtain surface runoff in a glacierized catchment in Beas Basin, Western Himalaya using soil moisture method. In the glacier module, we are to provide Groundwater Infiltration which is the % of glacier melt that infiltrates directly to groundwater. Can someone help with how to obtain this parameter?
Many thanks.

He Tejal,
Glacier modeler Nilo Lima suggests this response:
"It is a parameter that is generally the result of measurement on the glacier. In cases where data are not available, we have assumed as 0."

Thank you very much for your reply. I did't completely understand the measurement on the glacier part. Can you elaborate which measurements exactly? We have to add a groundwater node and provide a non-zero value in Groundwater Infiltration in glacier module to get water lost to groundwater. But how do we decide what should be this non-zero value?
Thanks,
Tejal
