Subject: WEAP MODEL- RIVER HEADFLOW AND GAUGE FLOWS DATA
Posted: 10/5/2021 Viewed: 5791 times
Good Day

I have a model with 3 Demand Sites, 2 Rivers, 6 Reservoirs and 10 Streamflow Gauges. My next step is to input Data Information for my river (as shown in video tutorial "WEAP Tutorial 04.2 - WEAP in one hour"). I do not have the RIVER headflows but I do have all the flow data for the 10 Streamflow Gauges along the rivers readily available. Will the model work if I input the STREAMFLOW GAUGE data and don’t enter headflows for the RIVER data?

Thanking you in advance.

Kind Regards,
Vernon

Dear Vernon,
Your river must have flow data input if you don't use climate data (ie rainfall) to allow the model to calculate flows.

Entering the data as Streamflow Gauges will not make the model run. Streamflow Gauge nodes are only for comparison with the modeled flow.

One way to make use of your streamflow gauge data would be the following:
1) use the gauge data from the furthest upstream gauge as the headflow
2) use Other Supply nodes to mimic the additional flow to the river (calculate this by subtracting the flow from the next gauge downstream).
