Subject: Groundwater storage issues, fixing parameters for SW_GW interaction

Dear WEAP community
I am currently working on setting up a hydrologic model that represents the hydrology of a catchment that could be projected for the future. The model is intended to simulate Surface water-Groundwater interaction. I am using the soil moisture method and Groundwater node is included i.e, Surface water_ Groundwater interaction is created. I have started checking on the results and the groundwater storage shows a sharp increasing trend. Is it acceptable for a groundwater storage to show this kind of sharp trend? I am trying to fix this issue and have doubts about some of the groundwater parameters. I am wondering which groundwater parameters need to be checked the most to fix this issue? I would greatly appreciate any thought. Some of the questions in my mind are, 1, Are Hydraulic conductivity, Storage at river level, Specific yield… values to be measured on site or get the data from other models or is it something that you calibrate in WEAP? At the moment the initial hydraulic conductivity values are set based on referring the geologic formation of each aquifer. 2, Could specifying ‘maximum head difference’ value help fixing the increasing trend? Thank you in advance, |
