Helo ,I am studying the impact of climate change on water resources and, at the same time, on the storage volume of a reservoir using WEAP.

I have calibrated and validated the two rivers that supply the reservoir. I also have observed reservoir storage volume data for the period 2004–2020. However, my Reference scenario starts in 1981.

When I run the reservoir simulation, the Storage Volume remains as a straight line at the maximum reservoir capacity, with no fluctuations, even though the inflows from the different climate models are different.Could someone please explain why the simulated reservoir storage volume does not fluctuate between the climate models? Is this related to the fact that my Reference scenario starts in 1981, while my observed reservoir storage data are only available from 2004 to 2020? Or could it be related to the reservoir configuration or the initial storage volume?

Hello,

If your reservoir storage volume remains at its maximum capacity, then your inflows must be exceeding your outflows out of the reservoir. Take a look at your downstream demands and your downstream flow on the river just downstream of the reservoir. Make sure the reservoir is releasing water as expected. Keep in mind that your downstream demands must have a higher priority than your reservoir in order for your reservoir to release water when it is below maximum capacity. Consider using a flow requirement object directly below your reservoir if you require a specific volume of water to be released from your reservoir regardless of demand.
