I. The reservoir receives inflows from two upstream rivers, and I have two demand sites downstream of the reservoir: one for domestic water supply and one for irrigation.The river continues downstream after the reservoir.I am currently analyzing the reservoir inflows and outflows. In the results, I My questions are:
Is there any reservoir operating rule or parameter that I should check to understand or control this downstream release?
Why is the “Outflow to Downstream” almost the same as the “Inflow from Upstream”? It looks like a mirror image. Is this normal, and what could be causing it?

The reservoir will release exactly enough water, nothing more, to meet all downstream demands which have a priority higher than the filling priority of the reservoir (typically low). If the reservoir is full, then it will release as much water as needed to stay at the top of storage. If the reservoir is above the top of conservation (an optional parameter), it will release as much water as needed to stay at the top of conservation, up to the limit of the maximum hydraulic outflow (if set).

If your outflow is equal to your inflow, then that means that you are not seeing much change in storage in your reservoir. This could be because your reservoir is full, or because it is needed to meet your downstream demands.

If you want to specify a particular release pattern, you can use a flow requirement object. Pay attention to the priorities of your reservoir, flow requirement object and demands- if you want the reservoir release to be controlled by the flow requirement object but not the demand object you would have to set the flow requirement priority higher than the reservoir and the demand priority lower than the reservoir.
