Subject: First International Conference on the Politics of Water Resources Governance in the Indus Basin Posted: 8/5/2012 Viewed: 44249 times
The Department of Political Science, GC University, Lahore, plans to organize a two-day international conference on Politics of Water Resources Governance in the Indus Basin on 9th and 10th of January, 2013, in Bokhari Auditorium of the University. The conference seeks to explore critical perspectives on the politics of water in three countries of the area: Pakistan, Afghanistan and India, and question the hegemony of technical-engineering discourse which tends to depoliticize the issue. Impending water scarcity and uncertainty due to climate change in the basin, coupled with a bourgeoning population, poses major challenges to the hydraulic societies of the basin. Problematizing these challenges and framing strategic responses to negotiate these challenges are the main concerns of the conference.
