UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education launched its Open Course Ware platform yesterday at the start of the Open Education Week. The Institute aims to make all of its educational materials available as Open Course Ware by 2017.

A first start has been made with three complete courses in Hydrology and Hydraulics, Urban Drainage and Sewerage and Ecological Sanitation. The material includes lecture notes, taped lecture videos and presentations.

The demand for trained water professionals far exceeds the number of professionals the Institute can train. By disseminating this knowledge freely in line with its vision and mission on education, UNESCO-IHE supports open access to educational materials for the benefit of the international learners' community, thus contributing to solving global water challenges.
