Hello,

In my project I need to insert the flow requirement as a restriction, like a fixed limit, but the model permits insert the flow requirement only as a demand with a priority. This way the flow requirement has periods that can not be attended. Is there some possibility to have a minimum flow as a restriction in the WEAP water alocation?

Dear Micol,

Think of the flow requirement like a demand - you are "demanding" that there be water in the river at that point. Like any other demand in WEAP, you have to answer the question: when there is not enough water in the river, whose "demands" are met? That's why the streamflow requirement has a demand priority. Usually it is set pretty high, or else that would defeat the purpose of having a streamflow requirement.

In terms of entering information into your requirement, after you build the object, right click on it and select "edit data" from the menu. At the top of the next menu, select "minimum flow requirement" and it will take you to the Data View. There, you can enter your data (remember you can use the monthly time series wizard if you like).

Dear Setephanie,

I want that my system representation throught WEAP atends 100% of the minimum flow requirement and that only the water left in the system atends the other demands. Is it possible?
My system has a minimum flow requiremet with priority 1,and energy demand with priority 2 and a reservoir priority 3 but it doesn't atend the minimum flow requirement for long periods.

Dear Micol,

Given the constraints that you have entered, it sounds like there isn't enough water in your system to fulfill the instream flow requirement.

To check this, go to Results/Supply and Resources/River/Streamflow to see how much water is in the river. At the bottom of the Chart view, you can change "all years" to "all reaches of river". If water is being removed from the river before the instream flow requirement, that is a concern (what is removing water from the river?), but it sounds like it is an issue of supply rather than conflicting demands.

Let me know if that helps.
