Dear WEAP users,

I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide answers to these questions:

Can WEAP be applied for water allocation and reservoir operation in large river basins, approximately 1,529 km in length and covering an area of 311,437 km²?
Does WEAP have the capability to directly integrate with climate models from CMIP6?

Thank you
Selam

Selam,

Yes, WEAP has been used for very large basins, including the entire western USA (https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2022EF003220). WEAP is generally very flexible in its data inputs, so you would be able to build a model with more or less details depending on the data available.

And yes, in the automatic catchment delineation mode, accessed in WEAP by clicking on Schematic --> Catchment Delineation Mode, you can define your catchments and then attribute CMIP6 climate data to them, using the delineation mode menu on the right hand side. Furthermore, if you already have the CMIP6 climate data you would like to use, you can use a custom NetCDF file with the automatic catchments, or alternatively enter in manual precipitation and temperature data for your catchments from an input spreadsheets.

Hope this helps.
